Freya’s new ‘do’

Thursday

I was getting my hair cut the other day by the lovely Jason from Stephen Marr and I managed to get Freya in for her first hair cut.  She wouldn’t sit still longer than 5 minutes so it really just ended up being a fringe trim (that’s bangs for North Americans). Very Bettie Page, no? she took that photo herself..gives you a glimpse of her determination!

Winter and Petite Kitchen

Sunday

DST-ORTOLANA-0996
It’s winter here in New Zealand so we have been cocooning a bit and doing lots of baking and cooking.  I have recently been trying out a few recipes from Petite Kitchen’s latest recipe journal (you can buy here or here). The fancy meatloaf went down a treat with the kiddies as well as the grown ups and the lemon and coconut truffles are a treat with a cup of tea on a cold winter’s day. image from

Soft Discipline and Guilt

Thursday

mother-daughter-photos-blue-caleel
“Maria and Violeta” via bluecaleel I don’t know about you but I spend a lot of my time as a parent feeling enormously guilty for the way I handle some situations with my children. This parenting gig is really hard! Sometimes I feel successful and more often than not I feel I have failed myself or children in some ways. Last week was particularly challenging and I just wasn’t handling things well and instead of dusting myself off

Macs and Macarons

Friday

macaroons
The weather is changing and Freya’s new rain mac arrived the other day.  She is so excited!  She can run around in the rain with her jacket and gumboots!  My friend Tessa also brought around macarons the other day and Freya tried one.  She was very excited by all the colours but not so sure about the taste.  Perhaps a bit too refined in texture, flavour? She is quite happy with chocolate chip cookies!
